Dispatch - April 21, 2019

I've spent the past couple of hours punching and clipping Joan of Arc's Victory 1429 and Harold Buchanan's Campaigns of 1777. I need to give my hands and wrist a break from the clipper.

I'm hoping to play both games in the next couple of weeks. Terri (my wife) seems interested in both. We've visited Brandywine, Saratoga, and Fort Ticonderoga in the past couple of years. The character of Joan appeals to her. She can relate to these games more than others in my collection.

The opening set up for the historical Freeman's Farm scenario from Saratoga, a game from GMT's "Battles of the American Revolution" series. This is the version from the tri-pack that was released last year.

Terri has caused some regrettable losses to my British regulars already and gained a victory banner. However and the grenadiers have managed to evict some rebel militia from their position behind the fence line, though.

This weekend we had my kids and my son's fiancee over and along with my wife, played a five-player game of Pub Battles: Brandywine using the "Role Playing Wargame" rules.

Wargaming Night - GMT Germantown - First session

Thursday evenings are wargaming night around here, and this past Thursday David and I tackled GMT's Germantown from their Battles of the American Revolution series. Game scale is an hour per turn, units are battalions with some brigades, 200 yards per hex. Given that I was slightly more familiar with the rules, I took the Americans and David played His Majesty's troops.

Playing Pub Battles Brandywine

My wife and I played our first game of Pub Battles: Brandywine last weekend. She took the Continentals and I took the British. This was only Terri's third time playing a wargame, so I had a bit of a quandary as to which side would be best for her. In the end I though being the defender would be a bit easier, despite having to shift front to handle Cornwallis' attack.
